Norway’s first registered shamanistic faith community

Naming ceremony

An official naming ceremony – a celebration of new life and the child's connection to nature and the spirit world.

Navneseremoni – sjamanistisk seremoni

The naming ceremony welcomes a child and gives them a spiritual name. It is a rich ritual that combines shamanic elements, blessings from the elements and participation from the community.

Preparation

The ceremony leader (steward) undertakes spiritual journeys to discover the child's power animal and spiritual name. Parents receive guidance on the structure of the ritual and may prepare symbolic objects.

Ceremony structure

Opening: The leader drums, sings or joiks to call in spiritual guidance, and blesses the child with peace, love, safety and wisdom.

  • Air – curiosity, creativity, humour
  • Earth – patience, wisdom, strength

Naming: The child receives their spiritual name, witnessed by everyone present, the ancestors, the powers and the elements.

Fivefold kiss: The parents bless the child's eyes, ears, lips, belly and feet with intentions of clarity, compassion, truth, safety and strength.

Children are not enrolled in the organisation automatically. Parents must formally register the child as a member.
