Åndenes vei - Kapittel 5 - Østlige stjerner

The cold wind from the north had turned into a milder breeze that brushed across the open landscape. The morning light played upon frost-clad meadows and waterfalls, and the majesty of the mountain realm stretched out like a merciless yet majestic backdrop for Áilu's path eastward. He followed the trail that wound through a mosaic of ancient trees, tall as the guardians of time, and the forest floor was clad in a carpet of heather and moss where small spirit figures seemed to whisper hidden secrets.

Jona walked at his side, heavy of step, but sharp of gaze, a man raised by the wisdom of nature, with hands that bore stories woven into leather and fur. Their feet trod carefully; understanding and respect blessed their interplay with the land that watched over them.

"This land," Jona began, casting his gaze toward the east, "is home to ancient powers and traditions, Áilu. Shamans here find power not only in the drum, but also in herbs, song, dance, and words that carry the soul closer to the world between."

Áilu listened with heart and mind open to all that was new. His drum rested in his arms like an anchor, but his soul sought a broader wisdom.

The Journey Eastward

The trail led them downward toward valleys where the wind carried the rumor of mysticism and ancient rituals. They crossed rivers with ice-cold currents that glittered in the growing daylight. Each hour the landscape revealed new secrets: overgrown stones, hollows beneath roots that beckoned toward deeper understanding, and tracks that were drowned in millennia of wisdom.

"Where will we meet these shamans?" asked Áilu as he admired the beauty around him.

"Our next stop is at a small settlement near the great mountains," answered Jona. "There lives Aila, a woman sage who has kept her traditions alive far from our familiar culture. She will help prepare you for the diversity of power that exists in the east."

Arrival at the Settlement

The village was a simple place, with huts bound together by stories that sang of life and death, love and loss. The people smiled gently, but were also watchful, as if they knew the world outside for better and for worse.

Áilu was met by Aila, a woman of years who bore her power with dignity. Her dark hair was braided with ribbons and herbs, and her eyes glowed with insight.

"Welcome, noaidi," she said, taking Áilu by the hand, feeling the firm faith in his grip. "What do you seek in lands where the stars do not always shine as ours do at home?"

"I seek balance and insight," answered Áilu. "To bind together the knowledge from my path with the tradition here."

Aila nodded. "Then you are in the right place. Come, and you shall see what we hold sacred."

Rituals at Dusk

In the evening they gathered at a great hearth where the sky displayed a kaleidoscope of stars and constellations. Aila introduced Áilu to the art of ritual – a blend of devotion, dance, and song, with herbs that filled the air with mysterious scents.

Herbs were lit and incense danced in the wind; their tongues of flame bore promises and prayers to the power-center of the universe.

Áilu, with his drum, beat in time with Aila's song, a blend of old languages that drew him deeper into the experience. He felt how the power melted together, his own soul open to more perspectives.

The elders of the village told stories of how shamanism there was bound to the elements, with rituals that mirrored the rhythm of the moon and the shifts of nature.

The Dream Journey — The Wisdom of the East

Later that night, in his trance, Áilu was drawn into a dream world. He soared over colorful plains, into the shadows of the bear forest, met figures who sang old songs about the cycle of life. He saw flames that bound themselves to the spiritual powers of antiquity, and met teachers who led him toward his own self-knowledge.

The voice that came was gentle: "Learn from everything, but keep your own heart. Balance exists only when many voices sing in harmony."

When he awoke, he felt a new presence — the power from the east was also his.

Dark Clouds over the Horizon

But with wisdom came also warnings: shadows in the shadow. News reached him of occult powers that sought to distort the balance of the region, and people who became entangled in dangers beyond ordinary sight.

"It is not only the necessity of bearing the light, but also of meeting the darkness," said Jona gravely.

Áilu knew that he now stood at a wearying crossroads. He had to strengthen himself, learn more, but also prepare for battle with invisible powers.
