Since not all of our members are able to take part in our physical ceremonies, we have created this simple and accessible version that you can do at home, either indoors or outdoors. You do not need any drumming experience to carry it out. Let the wisdom of the moon and the owl fill your space and your heart.
Preparation
Find a quiet place, indoors or outdoors.
For indoors: Light a candle as a symbol of the sacred fire.
For outdoors: If possible, make a small fire or light a lantern.
If you have a drum or singing bowl, you may use it during the ceremony, but it is not necessary.
Form your hand like an owl's talon, or set out a symbol connected to the owl (feather, image, figure).
The steps of the ceremony
Open the space
Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
Say quietly to yourself or aloud:
"I open this space for wisdom, protection and clarity."
Cleansing
Cleanse yourself and the space with sound (clapping, drum, singing bowl) or with incense if you have it.
If incense is not available, you can simply imagine that the air is being cleansed.
Focus on the owl energy
Hold your hand up like an owl's talon, or look at your symbol.
Think of the owl's qualities:
Seeing through masks, wisdom, silence, protection, shapeshifting.
Feel how these qualities fill you with courage and insight.
Drumming or sound
If you have a drum or singing bowl, play calmly for a few minutes and let the sound fill the space.
If not, sit in silence and feel the calm and the magic of the dark around you.
Sharing or reflection
If you are together with others, you can briefly share what this energy means to you (optional).
Alone, you can write down thoughts, feelings or visions that arise.
The owl's prayer
You can also read the owl's prayer within yourself, or aloud
Eye of the Night, we call upon you now,
Silent guardian beneath the glow of the moon,
Let your gaze break through the darkness,
And show us the truth behind the veil of night.
Under the silent shimmer of the stars,
Guide us with wisdom and gentle flight,
Give us the strength to move unnoticed,
And reveal the hidden paths of the night.
Let your silence bring peace,
Your sharpness inspire our senses,
Eye of the Night, help us to shift our shape,
In your light we find clarity, strength and insight.
Let your fire burn in the depths of the heart,
Give us peace and acceptance in what is,
Heart of the Fire, lead us with your flame,
In your light we find power, calm and strength.
Closing the ceremony
Give thanks to yourself, to the owl energy and to the moon for wisdom and protection.
Blow out the candle or put out the fire.
If possible, sit for a few minutes in silence and feel the energy you have gathered.
What can be done afterwards?
Share a meal, tea or friendly words if there are several of you.
Write in a journal about the experience.
Take a moment to be in nature, to look at the moon or listen to the sounds of the night.
